FAQs

It’s easy!

Step 1:

Decide what type of footage you want us to work with! Do you want us to edit your existing footage, capture an upcoming game or tournament,  or a combination of both? You can learn more about these options in the links below.

Step 2:

Head over to Our Packages page and determine which package best fits your athlete’s needs. From there you can add the package to your cart, provide all necessary details and complete the checkout process.

After this is complete, PayPal will authorize your card for the purchase. Your card will not be charged until we confirm with you that a videographer has been booked. This is the quickest way to ensure you get coverage because we book our videographers once payment is received. Think of it like shopping at Amazon. When you place an order, Amazon authorizes your credit card for the amount to ensure you have funds to pay the bill. But Amazon waits to actually charge your card until your items ships. If the items do not ship, you are not charged.

Alternatively, you can have us check availability before you check out. However – because videographers are booked first come, first served – we can only check availability not guarantee it. We only book videographers when payment is authorized. For example, if another family completes check out while you are having us check availability, they will be offered available videographers first.

Step 3:

Once we receive your order, we will work with our expansive team of videographers to schedule coverage for your upcoming event. After we schedule a videographer, we will send you an email confirming that your event has been successfully booked, and will then accept funds from Paypal. You can expect this email within 36 hours after your order is received.

Alternatively, if you have requested coverage during a busy weekend and all of our videographers are booked, we will advise you via email that we were unable to schedule coverage for your event. At this time we will remove the funds’ hold and your credit card will not be charged.

Please try to plan ahead for upcoming games. We suggest submitting your order at least a week in advance to avoid this situation. An early booking gives you the best opportunity to secure one of our videographers for your event.

Step 4:

Now that your event has been booked, we’ll need some additional information about your athlete. Please head over to our biography page, complete the form, and submit a photograph of your athlete. This is when we capture important information you want to share with coaches such as GPA, graduation year, academic achievements, sports related awards, etc.

Step 5:

If you’ve determined you’d like us to edit your existing footage, please head over to our Footage Upload page and follow the steps to submit your files. Additionally, this is where you can complete your Play Selection Form to instruct us which plays should be included in your video.

Step 6:

Approximately 7-10 days after filming your game or receiving your existing footage and play selections, we will email you a link to preview the proof video. After watching the proof video, you may request edits. After this final edit and confirming with you that the video is perfect, we will:

  • Email you a link to your athlete’s online ASM profile (which you can share online and with coaches)
  • Email you a download link to the MP4 file of your video (which you can then upload to websites such as YouTubeNCSA, and other recruiting sites)
  • Mail out your 3 DVDs (which your athlete can present to coaches at campus visits and ID camps)

American Sports Memories started in 2010, and quickly grew in scope to provide coverage from coast to coast. We have produced thousands of sports videos for athletes around the country, and continue to grow from word-of-mouth recommendations.  See what other customers have to say about American Sports Memories by clicking here.

American Sports Memories has videographers around the country! You can see our locations here.  All of the footage is then sent to our central studio in Bend, Oregon for editing, and posted online for client review.

Options depend on packages and include providing your video as a link that can be e-mailed to coaches and recruiters for online viewing, as well as a download of the digital file of your recruiting video. The digital file allows you to upload your video to YouTube or any college recruiting websites that you are working with. We also provide DVD disks that your athlete can hand to coaches as a leave-behind at ID Camps and campus visits. (Yes, there are still plenty of college programs that watch highlight videos on DVD).

We usually  have the first draft online for your review and feedback within 7-10 days of receiving the footage.  If you are in a time crunch, we can have it online for your approval within 72 hours with our expedited services.

If your event is cancelled due to weather, just let us know before the videographers leave their home and we will work with you to reschedule for another game. If the videographer has already departed for the venue we will owe them something for their time.  If your athlete will no longer be able to play in an upcoming game due to injury we will work with you in good faith to reschedule coverage when they are able to return to the field.  We are unable to provide refunds if your athlete performed poorly or did not get the expected amount of playing time.

While some coaches claim they don’t listen to the sound when watching recruiting videos, we have found that most do and therefore we synchronize your highlights to royalty-free music (allowing you to post your recruiting video to YouTube and other sites with no worries about copyright infringement). Yes, your videos can be synchronized to your favorite tunes from the radio, but you would have to provide the music for us and represent in writing that all licensing issues have been taken care of. (Honestly, coaches can find lyrics distracting and your choice of musical artist is not going to improve your chances for a scholarship). Our music library was selected specifically with sports highlights in mind – not too distracting for coaches, but the right backdrop to support sports highlight action sequences.

All clients ordering an edited highlight video have the opportunity to view the video in advance and provide one round of feedback that will be incorporated into the final version.  Clients rarely request additional rounds of editing, but if they do we will provide a quote for each subsequent round of editing.   Once the video has been sent to you, it is non-refundable.  We are in the business of producing outstanding recruiting videos, and our customer satisfaction rate exceeds 99%.

Of course!  Many clients consider their first recruiting video a “working draft”, and prefer to update it several times a year as their athlete’s skills improve.  Some old highlights can be removed, new ones can be added, SAT scores can be updated, etc.

We offer two shipping classes: Standard (5-7 business days) for $5 and Expedited (2-3 business days) for $15.

Yes, you may find a high school student or freelance videographer who charges less. Be sure to check their sports recruiting video production experience, ask to see examples of their work as well as a list of satisfied parents whose children were recruited by Division I, II, and III coaches.  You can see some of our work here and unsolicited parent feedback here. We believe in hiring reliable videographers who will show up early and use professional equipment, training them how to cover specific sports, and hiring editors with many years of editing experience. We double-check our work, and give clients an opportunity to preview and suggest changes before their videos are finalized. We strongly believe our videos are compelling and grab coaches’ attention!
